Longtime Colorado Group Realty broker Jon Wade is parting ways with the firm and opening a new office for his company, The Steamboat Group.
Wade said after 11 years with the company, his group, which now totals eight people, had outgrown its offices and wanted to continue growing independently of the larger group, which includes more than 60 brokers.
“It was a great home for me for 11 years. I learned a countless amount,” Wade said. “It was definitely a tearful farewell on my part, but we’re leaving on good terms.”
All Wade’s team members will leave Colorado Group Realty with him, including The Steamboat Group managing broker Jon Kowalsky, brokers Paige Brookstein and Dianne Bertini, listing and transaction manager Allison Alfone and marketing team members Erik Ramstad, David Dietrich and Dave Pettigrew.
Colorado Group Realty CEO Steve Goldman said Thursday he felt the move was good for both Wade and Colorado Group Realty.
“We wish Jon and his team the best in their new endeavor. As an entrepreneur at heart, I respect people (who) would take the risk of going on their own; it’s certainly not easy,” Goldman said.
Goldman said with more than 60 other brokers at Colorado Group Realty, the change should not affect the company’s work.
The change was made official Friday, and Wade and his team are now awaiting renovations for their new offices, which will occupy a portion of the upstairs of the historic Yampa Valley Electric Building on Yampa Street.
Wade said that separating from Colorado Group Realty will allow his team more freedom, including how they approach marketing, and the new office will allow the team to collaborate more.
Wade also emphasized the desire of The Steamboat Group to be a community-focused brokerage by building off the group’s newly established The Steamboat Group Fund, a charitable fund to which each of the brokers contribute a portion of their commission after every sale.
“Our favorite thing is helping locals find a home,” Wade said “and people who want to be here, but are not locals yet.”
